Sprouting Instructions
Yields approximately 1 Cup (1/2 lb.) of Sprouts

Put 2/3 Cup of seed* into a bowl or into your Sprouter.
Add 2-3 times as much cool (60-70 degree) water.
Mix seeds up to assure even water contact for all.
Allow seeds to Soak for 4-24 hours. (read Note directly below)

Note: ANYtime we soak ANY seed for longer than 12 hours, we change the water. when your first 12 hours is done: Drain off the soak water, Rinse the seeds and refill with fresh water. Continue soaking. It is extremely rare to soak longer than 12 hours, but Brown Rice is a seed that can take it. We suggest that you try your first batch with a 12 hour soak and see how you like the results. You can try the longer soak on future crops. That way you'll know the differences and which you prefer.
Wehani and Red Thai will sprout well after an 8-12 hour soak.
Wild Rice will split after a short soak and frankly, we've never seen a sprout on it, but it is SO GOOD we don't care. We soak it for about 4 hours. It is the one rice we actually eat un-cooked. It is still plenty chewy, but it's excellent!

Empty the seeds into your sprouter if necessary.
Drain off the soak water.

Rinse thoroughly with cool (60-70°) water.
Drain thoroughly.

Set anywhere out of direct sunlight and at room temperature (70° is optimal) between Rinses.

Rinse and Drain again in 8-12 hours.
And, perhaps one more...
Rinse and Drain in 8-12 hours.
And, if you like one more...
Rinse and Drain in 8-12 hours.

We usually stop here. We like our sprouts small (actually we don't even care if rice sprouts. A bulging germ is good enough for us. Once a seed takes in its fill of water it is alive and therefore nutritionally superior.

Harvest
Your sprouts are done 8-12 hours after your final rinse. Be sure to Drain them as thoroughly as possible after that final rinse.

The goal during the final 8-12 hours is to minimize the surface moisture of your sprouts - they will store best in your refrigerator if they are dry to the touch.

Refrigerate
Transfer your sprout crop to a plastic bag or the sealed container of your choice - glass is good too - and put them in your refrigerator.

* If using Single Harvest Pack use the whole bag.

Remember that the yield will be approximately 1.5:1, so in theory you can start with as much as 2/3 as much dry seed as your Sprouter has capacity.


Description

We currently offer four varieties of Rice:

Short Grain Brown: Short grain is the way to go as the seed is more likely to be intact (un-broken), which is always best.

Wehani: A spectacular aromatic mahogany long grain rice with a savory, musky, nut-like flavor. Really gorgeous, Wehani is listed in several Raw Food cookbooks where it is called for uncooked.

Rice produces a bulging germ or a tiny sprout - but cooks up more quickly and has greater nutritional benefit (like all sprouts - yes, even when cooked sprouts are way nutritious) and it is sweeter!

Brown Rice must be cooked (1 part water:1 part rice, for 15 minutes) - it just is not tender enough to eat as a raw sprout (for most people).

Red Thai is perhaps the best sprouting rice we've ever seen. It has a wonderful flavor and is very similar to Wehani in appearance.

Wild Rice is all together different. It is too long a grain to survive intact through all the shipping it encounters; between the farmer and you, but though it has a higher percentage of broken seeds than other seeds we sell, it soaks up water readily and - to us - is the most edible of raw sprouted rices.

We have been an internet only business since 2001. We are not a big corporation. We are but 2 people, Mom n' Pop Sprout. We decided after years of juggling our family's (kids, dogs, cats and even our own) needs, and the needs of Sproutpeople, that we had to make more time for our kids, so we stopped talking on the phone. All calls go to voice mail and have since 2001.

We are very fast to fill orders and answer e-mail, and though we wish we could make the time to talk, we just can't seem to get more minutes into a each hour. We are many years older than when we started and our days are too short and made up of too few hours to do everything. This limitation in our business has not kept us from pleasing our customers, nor from growing (as we have every year since 1993). We do what we do as well as we can, and we think we do it very well indeed.
