If you came to this page it is likely that you already know how totally powerful the juice of Wheat Grass is. All of the research we've seen indicates that every cereal grass is totally powerful - they vary in some minor ways - but not enough to claim any one is the best. So choose what you want and know that you are taking a food into your body which is as good as food gets! Since these are all so good, we think you should choose based on flavor - so you enjoy your Super Green Beverage as much as possible. Many folks have been seduced by advertising, into thinking that Barley is the way to go. As we say - research we've seen does not indicate that - and frankly, the juice of Barley Grass is horid! We will mix Barley with Wheat (5:1 wheat) as they grow at the same rate, but we have found no other way we can even tolerate Barley Grass juice. Wheat is the staple of course - it is sweet, inexpensive, easy to grow and high quality seed is readily available. We generally stick with Wheat ourselves, but you should feel free to try them all to see which you prefer. There are few people who actually enjoy the flavor of Grass Juice, but we all drink it because we know how perfect it is - because we FEEL IT as soon as we drink it! If there is any way you can afford it, you should consider getting the Green Star juicer. You can juice almost everything with it which allows you to mix your juices - which makes your juice taste better - which makes it easier to drink - which means you can drink more (within reason mind you) - which means you will feel better. You can find the Green Star cheaper at other web sites, so if you're close - $ wise - look around - the important thing is that you have what you need to make Grass Juice a regular part of your life. There is nothing better! HEY Don't forget your pets - they like grass too, and there is nothing like fresh tender grass for your cat who doesn't go outside - and it is non-puking!!! Also - Grass makes for a unique, simple, elegent house, table or floral decoration. And - if you want to grow grass from another grain go ahead and give it a try - follow the directions for wheat grass.
Grasses All of the seeds on this page are supplied by sources Certified Organic. | | | Whole Montana Barley - in Hull | | | A broad blade grass with a lighter green color than wheat, Barley Grass is consumed by many people in the form of a capsule called "Barley Green". The juice is a much more potent food - as are all raw foods. The juice is quite intense - flavor wise, so we advise that you mix it with other grains to come up with your tastiest juice. That is a completely subjective decision - some of you might love straight Barley Grass Juice - but around here we like to mix it into our Wheat at a rate of about 5:1 (20% Barley). The Grasses all provide about the same nutrition so mix and match freely. | | | | | | Grass for cats, salad for cats (and kittens), whatever you call it it is real! Cats need vegetable matter in their diet, just like people, and Kat Grass supplies that along with great nutrition. We even include a little Flax which is good for their coats. Many of you know that your cats need this, because they eat your house plants - that is the surest sign that your cat will love this treat. Kat Grass is grown on soil or similar medium - like Baby Blanket. All you do to serve your cat is to place the container of living grass near their food dish or in some other place they'll find it. | | | | | | We are not thrilled with our current Oats when it comes to growing Grass, but they are WAY better than anything we've seen in 2 years, so we will offer them to grow grass (they are the same seeds we sell for Sprouts). Limited availability = higher prices (supply and demand). | | | | | | Rye produces a Red tinged blade of grass (more so during cold weather). It is pretty much the same flavor as Wheat Grass and it is so beautiful that we mix it with Wheat to produce Christmas Grass - looks great in Easter baskets too. | | | | | | This is one seed which we carry only occasionally as it is very hard to find good sprouting Spelt. A great alternative for those allergic to Wheat and similar to other grasses in sweetness and nutritional value. 2007 Crop Note: We have been unable to find Spelt which is suitable for Grass . Our advice is to stick with the grains that grow grass well: Wheat, Rye, Barley, Triticale, Kat and to a lesser degree Oats. | | | | | | Triticale is a fairly new grain - created about 100 years ago. A combo of wheat and rye, it is similar in taste and like other grasses very nutritious. This years crop is particularly awesome. | | | | | | The classic power drink's source plant. Easy to grow and rejuvinating when ingested. If everyone drank this stuff the average life expectancy would jump 10 years, this is greeeaat stuff! Wheat Grass Juice is has a very intense flavor. We've been drinking it since the 1970s and have found that we enjoy it more now than ever - since we got a Green Life (now called Green Star) juicer we mix our grass juice with carrot and apple juice - it is delicious! You need a special juicer to extract the nectar from this grass - it is well worth the effort! Look down this page or on our Juicer page for more info. We also have various sized growing trays to grow your crop listed on our Sprouting Device page. | | | | You gotta be able to extract that nectar from your grass - so you need a juicer - a special juicer (don't try to grind grass - it makes an unpleasant mess). You gotta sprout your grains before you plant them - so you need a Sprouting Device. You gotta have soil or a medium to plant your Grass on too. Keep scrolling to see it all... | | | | | | | This is our lease expensive juicer and it has rapidly become our most popular as well. Most people know about the extensive health benefits of juicing, but nobody enjoys the process of setting up the juicer and worst of all, cleaning up afterwards. The healthyjuicer is rugged, efficient, and best of all, easy to use and clean! Michael Bergonzi, Greenhouse Manager at Hippocrates Health Institute, recommends this juicer over ALL others available. | | | | | | The basic grass juicer. Clamp to your counter and feed your cut grass in as you crank the handle. Perfect for folks producing an ounce or three at a time but a lot of work if you're trying to produce any large quantity. Very durable and easy to clean. | | | | | | Makes juicing grass a pleasure. Easy to clean and durable. We have one and were quite fond of it until we bought our Green Life juicer. | | | | | Crank out some Grass, Fruit or Vegetable Juice the modern way - with eeeeelectricity Also makes pasta, baby food, frozen desserts and more. We've never owned or tried this juicer, but it comes very highly recommended by Michael Bergonzi, Greenhouse Manager at Hippocrates Health Institute and his word is good enough for us. | | | | | | This is a newer version of the juicer we have in our kitchen. It does a great job of extracting juice from just about everything you can imagine: Grass, Carrots, Apples, Watermelon, Beets, Celery, Ginger, Pineapple, Pears, Cilantro, Greens...And just about Everything Else except oranges, grapefruit and onions! Visit our Green Star Page for the Complete Story on this Awesome Machine. | | | 5 pounds of Hard WinterWheat 1 Quart Jar Sprouter w/ Lid A 2 Crop Tray Set Vermiculite planting medium Kelpman liquid kelp fertilizer. Growing Instructions | | | Grow Your Own Grass! In your kitchen, with no soil and no mess (that sorta derpends on you of course =;-) The best (to our minds) and certainly the least expensive way to grow your own grass. This kit gives you what you need to grow 2 crops (each will yield 4-5 oz. of juice) of grass simultaneously and enough seed to plant up to 10 crops. We also really like our newest soilless planting medium; Vermiculite - it holds water better than anything we've ever used, it time-releases added fertilizer (like Kelpman which is also included), contains nutrients AND is the best medium we know for 2nd cuttings! | | Now Soil Free! Contents: 8-Crop tray Set (One 11 x 22 inch Solid Plastic Drip Tray and Sixteen 5 x 5 inch Plastic Trays with drainage )(you plant in 8 and use the other 8 as covers), Baby Blanket (soilless planting medium) pre-cut (8 pieces), 4 ounces of Kelpman (concentrated kelp fertilizer - this little bottle makes up to 25 quarts fo fertilizer!), Plastic Spray Bottle, and 8 Single Harvest Packs of seed: Greens: Buckwheat Lettuce, Pea Shoots, Spicy Salad Greens, Sunflower Greens, Grasses: Barley, Kat, Oat and Wheat | | | Greens are seeds which are sprouted for a day or two and then spread atop moist soil or a soilless medium (Baby Blanket) and grown into plants which are harvested by cutting at the base of the grown plant - about a week after planting. They are used on salads, sandwiches or as a snack. Grasses are grown the same way, but are usually juiced (using either an extracting or masticating juicer) but can also be used as a center piece on a table in addition to the suggestions above. This is a great way to see if you like growing and eating these plants. It takes a bit more work than sprouts, but it opens up a whole world of possibility. Give it a try! | | | | | | The best (in our opinion) and least expensive way to grow your own grass for juicing. Acres of Grass provides the home grower with the tray space needed to produce 4 crops of grass (yield = approx. 4-5 ounces of juice per crop) at a time, and the means to extract the super nutritious juice from your grass; a manual juicer. Though we still like soil for growing grass, we also really like our soilless planting medium; Baby Blanket, and since soil is such a mess we've decided to upgrade this kit by including Baby Blanket, Kelpman liquid kelp fertilizer and a Spray Bottle. Now you'll get EVERYthing you need to grow and enjoy your own grass! | | Contents: 5 lightweight plastic containers for planting/growing along with 5 solid bases to capture water (this is basically a house plant after all), 5 pounds of Kat Grass Seed, a 6 month supply of Baby Blanket planting medium, 4 ounces of Kelpman liquid kelp fertilizer (concentrate: makes up to 25 quarts) and a Spray Bottle. | | | Keep your kitty supplied with fresh, nutritious, delicious, tender non-puking (that's right - it is so fresh and tender they won't be searching for your pillow =;-) Kat Grass for up to 6 months. Saves your houseplants too! We include extra planting containers (they are about 4x4 inches by the way) in case any break - cats get pretty darned excited about grass! | | | | | | | A great way to experiment with grass - for juicing, aesthetics and pet pleasing. | | | | | Trays This is the way we grow Grass. Sprout your seed ("pre-sprout") - then spread it on thoroughly moistened soil or Baby Blanket in one of the several Trays we offer, cover the Tray for a few days and when it's time, un-cover and green your Grass. Just keep it moist. there is nothing to it! | | Visit our Tray page for information and purchase. | Supplies For Baby Blanket, Vermiculite, Kelpman, and Spray Bottles visit our Odds & Ends page. | | Visit our Odds & Ends page for information and purchase. | | | Easy Sprout Our most popular sprouter, it is also our personal favorite. Great drainage and the best air-circulation of any sprouter. Won't grow Grass but a great choice for pre-sprouting! | | | | SproutMaster The greatest tray sprouter ever. Stackable - add trays to build your own sprout skyscraper. Excellent drainage. Very versatile. You can theoretically grow Grass without soil in these, and though it isn't a great method - it can be done. | | | | Tube with Lids Very good drainage and exceptional air-circulation. Comes with 3 screen lids and 1 solid lid. For pre-sprouting only - can not grow Grass! | | | | Hemp Bag An excellent pre-sprouter for Grass growers! Superior drainage and air-circulation. | | | | Jar and Lid The least expensive, most basic pre-sprouter. Less air-circulation and drainage than other sprouters but perfect for pre-sprouting all seeds - especially Sunflowers! | | Visit Jar & Lid page for information and purchase | | Bio-Set A low rinse tray sprouter with 3 growing tiers. Less air-circulation and drainage than other sprouters, but quite popular despite our review. Fine for big seeds and very attractive. Perhaps the best choice we have for growing soil-free grass - though we don't prefer that concept. | | | | | | | | | | | | |

We are not a big corporation. We are but 2 people, mom n' pop. We decided after years of juggling our family's (kids, dogs, cats and even our own) needs, and the needs of Sproutpeople, that we had to make more time for our kids, so we stopped talking on the phone. All calls go to voice mail and have since 2001. We are very fast to fill orders and answer e-mail, and though we wish we could make the time to talk, we just can't seem to get more minutes into a each hour. We are many years older than when we started and our days are too short and made up of too few hours to do everything. This limitation in our business has not kept us from pleasing our customers, nor from growing (as we have every year since 1993). We do what we do as well as we can, and we think we do it very well indeed. We appreciate your business more than we can say. We ask that you use the phone for emergencies only and that you search our site for answers before e-mailing us. This site is bigger than any 4 sprout books put together, it is always available and it is free, and we know that almost all questions are answered here.
