We offer an amazing variety of Sprouting Beans! Bean Sprouts come in many shapes, sizes and colors and offer a diverse range of flavors and textures. You may never have thought of some of these beans as sprouts - they are, and they may change your life!
Beans are nutritious and delicious raw and cooked.
Visit our Recipe Center to begin discovering sprout cookery.
Over the 10 Summers we sold at the Dane County Farmer's Market in Madison, Wisconsin - we talked to thousands and thousands of folks about sprouts. Every week new people stopped by our stand and asked - "What do you do with those bean sprouts?" In most cases our regular (and often passionate) customers were the first to answer, telling more often than not that they, "eat them right out of the bag" - some saying "I just stand at the refrigerator munching"
Most sproutpeople started the same way - thinking of Alfalfa when they heard the word Sprouts. It was a challenge for most of us to think of a Lentil, Pea or Garbanzo Bean as a Sprout - but once we tried it our lives were changed forever and so was our perception of what a Sprout is. Once you open your mind, heart and mouth to the idea of Sprouted Beans you wonder how you could have lived so many years thinking that Alfalfa defined Sprout!

A beautiful small oblong maroon bean with a rich bean flavor.
Green, Crimson & Red Chief Lentils, Green, Marrowfat & Yellow Peas, Beige Garbanzos and Adzukis
An amazingly beautiful pastel bean mix. Our original bean combo was originally called Jupiter's Awesome Mix - after our (first) beloved dog, who is responsible for our move "back to the land", and is our 2nd most popular bean blend of all time!

Black beans should be cooked before eating. They make an attractive dark purple sprout which cooks up in an hour or so.
The oddest combo of them all - it defies description. I can't remember how (or why) I ever came up with this, but my best guess is that in deciding to name a mix after our 2nd dog (Clementine), I combined seeds that were the same color as her. It is alternately called Mix #9 in reference to the Beatle's oddest song.
This mix requires 2 steps to complete as the seeds need different amounts of time to finish sprouting. This can be done with one sprouter.

A seasonally colored bean mix - Red and Green. Delicious bean flavor and easy - as are all beans - to grow.

Your basic Chick-Pea makes a delicious nutty sprout - probably the tastiest of all Garbanzos. A great snack on it's own or as an ingredient in numerous recipes (Sprout Hummus and several others). A very easy sprout to grow, resembles a miniature brain.
| Your basic Chick-Pea, only smaller. This is our favorite Beige and is the Garbanzo we carry all the time - it tastes great and is best looking as a sprout (compared to large Beige Garbanzos). A great snack on it's own or as an ingredient in numerous recipes (Sprout Hummus and several others). A very easy sprout to grow, Small Beige Garbanzos appear in many of our bean mixes. |
| The coolest of all Chick Peas! These taste like other Garbanzos, bu they are black. black vegetables - and food in general - is rare indeed. These are VERY difficult to keep in stock. |
Smaller then the average Garbanzo, Browns run to the orange side when sprouted, so they are more of a pastel then a dark sprout. For that reason we add them to our most beautiful pastel mix - Beanie's Awesome, when we have them. They have a wonderful flavor and texture too! VERY difficult to keep in stock.
Black, Brown and Beige Garbanzos
note: this mix may vary depending on what Garbanzos we have in stock.
A really cool mix with lots of devotees. Great for raw hummus and many other sprout recipes! A terrific combo of tasty chick peas which is really cool looking.

This mix is intended for cooking. GB+R Mix is the main ingredient in our Perfect Soup. We have eaten this soup for years as our staple winter meal. It cooks in a fraction of the time of dry beans, has more flavor and nutrition and is just an all around great food.
Wheat, Green & Yellow Peas, Green & Hulled Red (Orange) Lentils and Daikon & China Rose Radish
Hot by virtue of Radish, sweetened by the Wheat, and softened by the legumes, this is an unusual mix, with many devoted followers. We sold 20 pounds of Hot + Sweet every summer Saturday at our farmer's market stand (1993-2003).
This mix requires 2 steps to complete as the Radish need grow 2-3 more days than the legumes. This can be done in one sprouter but 2 is better.

Black Food is rare and beautiful and Lentils are our favorite sprout - these are a great choice - and with our current lack of Black Garbanzos they are the only black beans we have (which can be eaten raw) so they are that much more precious. Very easy to grow and as phenomenally delicious as any lentil.
| Another in our beautiful and delicious and easy to grow Lentil line, Crimson Lentils are smaller and plumper and of a darker orange than Red Chief. Exceptionally beautiful! |
A small, gorgeous green lentil! Eston Lentils are small and exceptionally attractive!
The most unusual of the Lentils - they are mottled blue with green and black highlights. As with all lentils these are completely delicious and very easy to grow.
The most common Lentil, Greens are the largest, and are equally easy to grow and very delicious, as well as the least expensive.
These (usually Crimson) lentils have their thin skin removed to reveal their gorgeous bright orange color. These are rarely available as sprouting seeds as the machine that removes the skin usually ruins them for sprouting. Get 'em while you can - when we have 'em!

Another beautiful, delicious and Easy to grow Lentil, Red Chief will shed their skins when sprouted to reveal a gorgeous bright orange color.
Another great tasting Lentil, Whites range in color from white to light green. They are not nearly as white as blacks are black but they are a great addition to any lentil collection just the same.
A very, very lovely mix of dark seeds that taste great raw or cooked. To us, our most visually stunning mix.

The most consumed sprout on Earth, Mungs are grown and used extensively in Asian cuisine. Perhaps the most exciting sprout to grow as it offers unique challenges. Mungs are probably the best cooking sprout - especially if you like Chinese food. We have some great recipes for these.

A simple and of course, tasty combination of legumes.

Green, Yellow, Speckled, Marrowfat and Tiny Mottled Bill Jump Peas
A combination of every Pea we have in stock. Varies slightly depending on supply, but usually contains 5 peas. Kids like this one. When the sprouts are let grow for 4 or 5 days they will form long roots and shoots with the Pea in between. Apparently there is some fun in pulling them apart while holding the pea in your teeth which only children truly appreciate. Maybe its a Midwestern kid thing =:->
These are tiny dark mottled Canadian Peas. They are the most beautiful of all of our Peas. Bill Jumps are more prone than other peas to having hard seed (a seed which does not soak up water and remains hard), so you should discard any hard seeds which exist after they soak.
The basic Pea. It is usually an Alaskan Field Pea. Sprout tastes like fresh Peas. An essential ingredient in most of our bean mixes for it's gorgeous bright green color and delicious pea flavor!
Marrowfat Peas are a big (our biggest) Pea, light green in color, odd shaped (not round), and the most tender of all Sprouted Peas. They are used in the U.K. to make a dish called Mushy Peas in which they are cooked for something like 2 weeks (just kidding =:-) until mushy (we'll eventually post the recipe for this quite tasty dish). We prefer sprouting them.

This may be even more beautiful than Bill Jump Peas. These now come from Canada - they are astoundingly gorgeous. Full of beautiful subtle colors. Also grows great Pea Shoots. A great Pea!

Yup - a Pea which is Yellow. Very pretty and sweet. Small and smooth.

Raw Valencia Peanuts make for one way popular sprout! We got thousands of folks addicted to these over our years at the Dane County Farmer's Market in Madison, Wisconsin (where we sold sprouts every Saturday from April - November, 1993 - 2003). Peanuts are best when they put out only a bulge at their tip, not a big sprout, but you can decide for yourself - assuming that you can keep from eating them long enough to let them grow.
Green, French Blue, Crimson, Black, Eston, Pardina and Red Chief Lentils
If there was only one item you could get from us, Peasant Mix should be your choice. Well, it would be ours. Lentils offer everything: Lentils store forever, they are excellent nutritionally, they are easy to sprout, they taste great sprouted for 2 days or for 6 days (and all in between), they are great raw and cooked and the sprouts last for weeks and weeks in the frig. Did we mention: Peasant Mix is BEAUTIFUL!
When sprouted, Pintos add nutritional value (like all sprouts) to a meal, and they cook in a fraction of the time of dry Pintos. They should be cooked as they are hard to digest for most folks when eaten raw.
Mung, Peanut, Black, Brown and Beige Garbanzos, Green, Speckled and Bill Jump Peas, Green, French Blue, Black, Eston and Crimson Lentils, Adzuki
13 seeds mixed up to make our most popular sprout at the Dane County Farmer's Market - where we sold over 100 pounds every weekend throughout the Summer to our loyal and delighted customers. The inclusion of Peanuts is the main reason that more folks are addicted to this than to any other of our sprouts. The most popular use of this mix (and many other bean sprouts) is as a snack - the majority of our customers say they eat SF Mix like popcorn or mixed nuts - straight, but we have some great recipe ideas too.
This famous nutritionally rich seed is an easy sprout which you may want to cook before eating - it's not a must, you'll have to ask your digestive system. Not all Soy Beans will sprout. Ours will of course, but as with all of our seeds they are intended - and selected by us - for sprouting. If you are having trouble sprouting Soy you got elsewhere it is most likely because of the seed, so don't give up - just get some Sprouting Soy Beans!

We only use the phone for emergencies.
Back in 2001 we were still using the phone. One day I was talking to a long-time customer while pushing my daughter on the swing in our backyard (this is what a mom n' pop business is like on the internet). It dawned on me that my priorities were severely messed up, so I stopped using the phone. I love to talk and I love to help, but my family would never see me if I picked up the phone again.
The very best way to contact us is through E-mail =:-)
We are quite fast and VERY thorough. We love to help.
We have been an internet only business since 2001. We are not a big corporation. We are but 2 people, mom n' pop. We decided after years of juggling our family's (kids, dogs, cats and even our own) needs, and the needs of Sproutpeople, that we had to make more time for our kids, so we stopped talking on the phone. All calls go to voice mail and have since 2001.
We are very fast to fill orders and answer e-mail, and though we wish we could make the time to talk, we just can't seem to get more minutes into a each hour. We are many years older than when we started and our days are too short and made up of too few hours to do everything. This limitation in our business has not kept us from pleasing our customers, nor from growing (as we have every year since 1993). We do what we do as well as we can, and we think we do it very well indeed.
We appreciate your business more than we can say. We ask that you use the phone for emergencies only and that you search our site for answers before e-mailing us. This site is bigger than any 4 sprout books put together, it is always available and it is free, and we know that almost all questions are answered here.
Thanks again for your patronage and your many kind words.
