Alfalfa and Clover are what most Americans think of when they think of Sprouts. Tender yet crisp these tiny little plants are - to many - bland in flavor. It was in fact, Gil's utter hatred for Alfalfa sprouts that compelled him (me) to create a flavor filled alternative - Russian Mix, in early 1994. Between you and I; us Sproutpeople we have completely changed the concept of Leafy Sprouts - by combining seeds (which produce Sprouts) with A LOT of flavor with Alfalfa and Clover (which have little flavor) we have created blends which transcend the old concept of Sprouts.

We wanted to not only like eating our sprouts but to crave them. We found that a Radish seed produces a sprout - in 4 days - which though tiny, has ALL of the flavor (and a far superior texture) of a full grown Radish. We looked (and still look) for more seeds like this and discovered that the Sprouts produced by Garlic Chives, Onion, Mustard, Cress and Arugula have the same awesome quality of flavor. We mixed these and other exotic seeds into the rather bland (though texturally exquisite) Clover and Alfalfa to create profoundly craveable, super nutritious, certified organic, Gourmet Sprouts! Italian Blend is so excellent and French Garden so perfectly delicious that gourmet restraunts use them!

The mixes on this page have the power to not only change completely your perception of sprouts, but to change your life as well!

Leafy Sprout Seeds

Alfalfa

$7.40/lb.

The classic American leafy sprout. Mild nutty flavor and a wonderfully crispy texture.

Clover
Red Clover

Pounds

Almost identical to Alfalfa in flavor - nutty and mild, but with a lighter green leaf. We prefer Clover to Alfalfa as it sheds its hulls better and lasts longer in the frig. - as a sprout. We use Red Clover as the base for most of our gourmet mixes. Our Clover is from Canada.

$9.25/lb.

The inclusion of Arugula - an amazingly tasty sprout - is what has made French Garden by far our most popular Leafy sprout blend since it's creation in 1995. This is as gourmet as sprouts get! A delectible blend of mildly sweet, tangy, bitter and peppery. It is perfect!

$9.99/lb.

Another gourmet blend, Italian is 2nd only to French Garden in popularity. A great way to enjoy Garlic Sprouts (which cost so darn much solo) along with other tasty sprouts.

$7.90/lb.

A simple combination for those who like mild flavor. Our Farmers Market customers used to say "alfalfa, that's what cows eat", hence the name =:-D

$9.25/lb.

A very spicy mix (named after our mild mannered cat) with a fantastic aroma. All of our spicy seeds are in here and the addition of Celery adds the aromatic quality. Very tasty - as long as you like some heat.

Oriental Greens

Alfalfa, Clover, Oriental Mustard, Mizuna, Tatsoi

$10.75/lb.

Yet another in our geographic theme sprout mixes. We started naming mixes this way because we never went anywhere (We spent every day rinsing sprouts.) and we thought we might derive some vicarious travel pleasure. This is flavored with multiple mild mustards.

$10.20/lb.

Our personal favorite among the Leafy sprouts and also the oldest of these mixes. It is the perfect acompaniment to a bagel. Oddly, I used to hate sprouts (I mean Hate!) at age 19, when I (Gil) moved to San Francisco, California (from Chicago), they put sprouts on everything - including bagels. It really infuriated me. But now, I eat Russian Mix topped bagels at an alarming rate - have for years - sometimes without anything else - just a toasted bagel with Russian Mix. Moral: Never say never. =:-D

$9.00/lb.

A common sprout mix - most sprout growers offer some version. Ours is different because it has fenugreek and enough radish to actually be considered spicy - by some folks at least. If you really want spicy try Nick's Hot Sprout Salad!

$36.63

A great way to get into sprouting Alfalfa/Clover type sprouts. This kit is made up of:

Yield note: This kit will produce about 15 pounds of sprouts (8 ounces at a time) over time. Alfalfa and Clover yield between 6 and 8 times as much weight in sprouts as in seed. Cool eh?! This also means that the sprouts you produce are costing you less than 70¢ per 5 ounces (the typical weight sprouts are sold in, in stores) even with the cost of the sprouter! The Easy Sprout will last you forever so this is not only a great introduction to sprouting Leafy Sprouts it is also an introduction to the cost savings related to growing your own. Besides that, these are going to be the freshest sprouts you ever had!
Sprouts are CooL!

We only use the phone for emergencies.
Back in 2001 we were still using the phone. One day I was talking to a long-time customer while pushing my daughter on the swing in our backyard (this is what a mom n' pop business is like on the internet). It dawned on me that my priorities were severely messed up, so I stopped using the phone. I love to talk and I love to help, but my family would never see me if I picked up the phone again.

The very best way to contact us is through E-mail =:-)
We are quite fast and VERY thorough. We love to help.

We have been an internet only business since 2001. We are not a big corporation. We are but 2 people, mom n' pop. We decided after years of juggling our family's (kids, dogs, cats and even our own) needs, and the needs of Sproutpeople, that we had to make more time for our kids, so we stopped talking on the phone. All calls go to voice mail and have since 2001.

We are very fast to fill orders and answer e-mail, and though we wish we could make the time to talk, we just can't seem to get more minutes into a each hour. We are many years older than when we started and our days are too short and made up of too few hours to do everything. This limitation in our business has not kept us from pleasing our customers, nor from growing (as we have every year since 1993). We do what we do as well as we can, and we think we do it very well indeed.

We appreciate your business more than we can say. We ask that you use the phone for emergencies only and that you search our site for answers before e-mailing us. This site is bigger than any 4 sprout books put together, it is always available and it is free, and we know that almost all questions are answered here.

Thanks again for your patronage and your many kind words.
