We were on Home Garden TV's Gardening By The Yard twice in May of 2007, once in May of 2008 and again in June of 2008. It is a great segment! We grew a whole lot of stuff and then spent an entire day showing them Sprouts, Grass and Greens - and teaching them about nutrition and how to grow.
We made a special bundle for the occasion.

A great way to get into sprouting Leafy (Alfalfa/Clover type) sprouts. Our Leafy sprouts are unlike any you've ever experienced - they are as gourmet as sprouts get!
Yield note: This kit will produce about 15 pounds of sprouts (8 ounces at a time) over time. Alfalfa and Clover yield between 6 and 8 times as much weight in sprouts as in seed. Cool eh?! This also means that the sprouts you produce are costing you less than 70¢ per 5 ounces (the typical weight sprouts are sold in, in stores) even with the cost of the sprouter! The Easy Sprout will last you forever so this is not only a great introduction to sprouting Leafy Sprouts it is also an introduction to the cost savings related to growing your own. Our favorite sprouting device and America's most famous sprouting seed! The pound of Broccoli will produce about 5 pounds of broccoli sprouts - at about 8 ounces of sprouts per crop.
We've grown thousands of pounds of Broccoli since 1997. Our current lot of Broccoli produces large, delicious sprouts. We have purchased our Broccoli seed from the same farmer since 1998. Their seed always produces large flavorful sprouts. Given the almost complete lack of available seed, we feel very fortunate to have it! BUT - it is NON-Organic. We hope to offer certified organic seed someday, but for now this is truly the best there is in flavor, yield and germination.
This is one of only 2 seeds we sell (out of 80) which is not organic (green cabbage being the other). We continue to search for organic seed but to date have not found any which sprouts well and tastes good enough, when we do eventually find an organic source we will certainly offer it.
Broccoli is of course famous for it's antioxidant content. Broccoli sprouts contain something like 50 times the sulfurophane found in mature broccoli (ie - one 8 ounce crop has as much as 25 pounds of broccoli). For years we could not say that without violating a patent held by the Dr. who headed the research team under the company name Brassica Protection Products, but now that that ridiculous patent has been thrown out, we can =:-)
They are wonderfully tender and tasty - even if you don't like broccoli.

Grow Your Own Grass!
In your kitchen, with no soil and no mess.
The best (to our minds) and certainly the least expensive way to grow your own grass. This kit gives you what you need to grow 2 crops (each will yield 4-5 oz. of juice) of grass simultaneously and enough seed to plant up to 10 crops. We also really like our newest soilless planting medium; Vermiculite - it holds water better than anything we've ever used, it time-releases added fertilizer (like Kelp Fertilizer which is also included), contains nutrients AND is the best medium we know for 2nd cuttings! |

Soil Free! Contents: One 11 x 22 inch Solid Plastic Drip Tray and Sixteen 5 x 5 inch Plastic Trays with drainage (you plant in 8 and use the other 8 as covers), Baby Blanket (soilless planting medium) pre-cut (8 pieces), 4 ounces of Kelp Fertilizer (concentrated kelp fertilizer - this little bottle makes up to 25 quarts fo fertilizer!), Plastic Spray Bottle, and 8 Single Harvest Packs of seed: Greens: Buckwheat Lettuce, Pea Shoots, Spicy Salad Greens, Sunflower Greens, Grasses: Barley, Kat, Oat and Wheat | | Greens are seeds which are sprouted for a day or two and then spread atop moist soil or a soilless medium (Baby Blanket) and grown into plants which are harvested by cutting at the base of the grown plant - about a week after planting. They are used on salads, sandwiches or as a snack.
Grasses are grown the same way, but are usually juiced (using either an extracting or masticating juicer) but can also be used as a center piece on a table in addition to the suggestions above.
This is a great way to see if you like growing and eating these plants. It takes a bit more work than sprouts, but it opens up a whole world of possibility. Give it a try!

| | | | | Micro-Greens are just sprouts which grow like plants - they bury their roots in (in this case) a moist felt pad and grow straight up, unfurling leaves atop thin stems. This is a really cool way to grow all sorts of tiny seeds - like Alfalfa, Clover, any of our Gourmet Leafy blends, Mustard, Radish, Broccoli and more. It is The Perfect way to grow Arugula and Cress (which are mucilaginous seeds which must be grown as Greens because the gel sack they form makes them impossible to sprout in a traditional sprouter) which is all the reason anyone needs to get into this - once you've had Arugula and Cress Micro-Greens your life will never be the same! They are just Awesome!

| | | | | The best (in our opinion) and least expensive way to grow your own grass for juicing. Acres of Grass provides the home grower with the tray space needed to produce 4 crops of grass (yield = approx. 4-5 ounces of juice per crop) at a time, and the means to extract the super nutritious juice from your grass; a manual juicer.

One day I was talking to a long-time customer while pushing my (then 4 year old) daughter on the swing in our backyard (this is what a mom n' pop business is like on the internet). It dawned on me that my priorities were severely messed up, so I stopped using the phone. I love to talk and I love to help, but my family would never see me if I picked up the phone again, and that's just wrong don't you think?!

We have been an internet only business since 2001. We are not a big corporation. We are but 2 people, Mom n' Pop Sprout. We decided after years of juggling our family's (kids, dogs, cats and even our own) needs, and the needs of Sproutpeople, that we had to make more time for our kids, so we stopped talking on the phone. All calls go to voice mail and have since 2001.
We are very fast to fill orders and answer e-mail, and though we wish we could make the time to talk, we just can't seem to get more minutes into a each hour. We are many years older than when we started and our days are too short and made up of too few hours to do everything. This limitation in our business has not kept us from pleasing our customers, nor from growing (as we have every year since 1993). We do what we do as well as we can, and we think we do it very well indeed.
We appreciate your patronage more than we can say. We ask that you use the phone for emergencies only and that you search our site for answers before e-mailing us. This site is bigger than any 4 sprout books put together, it is always available and it is free, and we know that almost all questions are answered here.
